My offerings reflect my love of intuitive distance sessions.
Over the years, I investigated becoming a member of several Reiki Associations, one of which is the Canadian Reiki Association (CRA). I discovered that the CRA is a regulating body that appears to have a focus on in-person traditional Reiki services.
The practicality of what this means:
-
CRA doesn't recognize long distance sessions as part of their required case studies to become a member nor do they recognize distance attunements. I note that Reiki is an energy healing modality which specifically teaches distance healing.
-
CRA doesn’t permit practitioners to combine psychic services with Reiki. They must be separate sessions and not related.
As a Reiki practitioner focused on distance healing with intuitive messages a crucial part of my offerings, I concluded it was not beneficial in my circumstances to become a member of this particular organization, to become certified.
Let me clarify, I am not judging this as right or wrong.
There must be measurability, evaluation tools, structure and a code of ethics to all training. And the CRA may be perfect for many Reiki practitioners. In fact, it is very reassuring to know that a code of ethics and standard of care is being applied.
I also respect the fact that there are many options available.
Let's talk about certification.
It is very common to see the phrase, “Become certified in Reiki Second Degree,” but what does this mean exactly?
Well, if you are a member of a particular association like the CRA, where the code of ethics and rules are transparent, this is obvious.
It sounds good to be certified, doesn’t it?
However, I think it is important to understand that there is a broad spectrum as to what this actually means. There are many different moving parts and variables:
-
Is your Reiki Master/Teacher certified by an organization with clear and defined rules like the CRA or similar body in other countries? If the scope of your intended practice or values align to this approach, it may be important for you to find a Reiki Master/Teacher that is a member of the organization you wish to join, or whose style of teaching fits within this model.
-
Are you looking for Distance training with the goal of becoming certified by a national organization? If so, you need to know that some organizations such as the CRA do not recognize distance Reiki attunements or case study treatments.
-
Are you looking for Distance training with the goal of using Reiki for your own healing path (or as a practitioner) and pairing it with your intuitive gifts? If so, you may wish to choose a Reiki Master/Teacher and/or association who focuses on distance treatments in combination with intuitive readings/offerings. This is where I fit into this equation.
Finally, if you are being certified by a Reiki Master Teacher who is not a member of any regulating organization, the certification is derived from each Reiki Master/Teacher's individual training, code of ethics and personal style of teaching/training students. Most Reiki Master/Teachers I know strive to ensure that students are upheld to high standards and consistent education and experiential goals.
Certification is multi faceted.
If you are a more fluid teacher/practitioner you may choose, like me, to not become part of particular governing organizations because certain aspects of your practice will be restricted under that certification.
In my case, after researching various organizations, I chose the International Association of Reiki Professionals (IARP). It is a fluid organization which offers a code of ethics, procedures, business material, Insurance plus more.
On the other end of the Certification spectrum, it is buyer beware.
I see Reiki courses on the internet all the time which feel off, out of integrity. These type of certifications, whether long distance or in person, are far different than a certification from a Master/Teacher who teaches the material, mentors their students and continues the education and experiential training regardless of whether they belong to an organization or not.
I would therefore urge you to become familiar with your teacher’s vibrational presence, how their integrity and values meet your needs and the scope and duration of the training.
-
Will you be meeting 1:1?
-
Will you have time to ask questions, a wide variety of opportunities to practice skills? Are there measurable goals that you must meet to be certified?
-
Does your Reiki Master/Teacher offer an ongoing mentorship?
The invitation is to consider what it means to be ‘certified.’ The truth is, if you are not aligned with your instructor's energy, the certification may feel meaningless.
Millions of people around the world are attuned to Reiki and I imagine there are many views of what Reiki is and is not. For me, Reiki is not limited. It is a Divine stream of energy that promotes the awakening of our unique gifts.
Since it is Divinely guided energy, it is not quantifiable. It is fluid and changing depending on the individual’s need. That is what makes it so powerful and challenging to define and/or regulate.
I regard Reiki initiates to be certified by the sacred, the Divine Source. This code of ethics requires you to always allow the higher wisdom to lead in every Reiki session you give or create and to never promise results or diagnose.
I have taken great care to craft long distance Reiki attunements and sessions that align with a code of ethics that I am humbled to strive to embody as an Usui Reiki Master/Teacher.
My purpose in creating this conversation is to create awareness of the many options available. To be clear, it is not my intention to judge one option or the other better or worse. The invitation is to be clear on your needs when considering becoming attuned to Reiki or joining an association. The beauty is that there is room for a wide spectrum of needs in the current system and that is healthy and useful when we are aware & informed with respect to all options.
Instead of using the word ‘Certification’ on my offerings, I'll let you decide whether I am an aligned Reiki Master/Teacher/Guide who fits your goals and expectations. I welcome and encourage questions about my practice and what to expect for your training. Let's start the discussion!
