Do Reiki & Chakras Mix?

Did you know Reiki isn't based on the chakra system?

Gasp! Yes, it's true.

Ever since I was attuned to Reiki Master/Teacher, I've been in search of a deeper understanding of this amazing system and how it relates to other energy healing practices.

How are they related?

How are they different?

See, here's the thing, when we look deeper into the roots of Reiki, we discover that the pillar or premise of this energetic system is based on the HARA system from the Japanese and Chinese energy medicine traditions.

 

In the HARA system... there is a foundational pillar of light with three main energetic reservoirs that hold different qualities of Chi/Prana/Ki/universal energy.

 

This system draws on what Barbara Brennan (Healing Hands of Light) refers to as the underlying energetic system of purpose which is at a deeper level in the energetic body than the chakra system. However, it upwells into the chakra system, thereby affecting this system as well.

You may also have noticed that some of the traditional Reiki hand positions fall near main organs and endocrine system, and do overlap with the area in which the chakra system is 'hooked' into the body as well.

More inter-relating!

Over the last few years, I have taken some deep dives into intuitive energy healing with Chakra expert Cyndi Dale (international author and energy healer). Her vast wisdom has helped inform my understanding of how Reiki and the chakra system might be used together to create deep change.

 

And has also ended my confusion as to where one system ends and the other begins!

Cyndi Dale equates the chakra system as doorways or portals of subtle and physical energy. They are the entrance and exit points for all four healing pathways that she has identified in her teachings: Divine, Elemental, Power and Imaginal.

 

I see Reiki as being a part of the Divine pathway and the chakra system is part of the Elemental Pathway. The Imaginal Pathway is what you would consider a shamanic portal and the Power Pathway uses forces, virtues such as love, compassion, trust and rays to effect changes.

 

The chakras are the windows or portals we use to access all four pathways.

I had an epiphany that when I create a Reiki pillar of light, I am accessing the Divine Pathway, when I am drawn to work with a chakra I am on the Elemental pathway, I relate and access wisdom/medicine from other beings on the Imaginal pathway and invoke generative/degenerative forces on the Power pathway.

If this feels familiar to you, you may be accessing all four pathways in a very organic way as you step into energetic realms of healing.

So, long story short, although the modality of Reiki is not based on the Chakra System, when they are accessed together we can achieve powerful results.
